Refocus provides Strict Modes to make it more difficult to stop blocking. The selected strict mode will take effect when the blocking session is active.
Available Strict Modes
Each “Strict Mode” will affect your ability to stop blocking. It will make it more difficult to stop blocking.
As you use Refocus, you may notice that you will habitually press “Stop Blocking” to unblock apps. Strict Modes help you “interrupt” this habit.
Refocus improves your focus by adding friction, unlike social media apps, which aim to remove friction to keep you hooked. For example, the infinite scroll was designed so users can browse endlessly without needing to click or load new pages, minimizing interruptions and increasing engagement. By increasing friction, you're guaranteed to reduce your phone use over time.

This is the default. You are able to stop blocking any time.
Every attempt to stop blocking will be interrupted by a challenge. The challenge allows you to think a little bit longer on whether you truly want to stop blocking. There are two types of interruptions:
Duration: interrupt every attempt to stop blocking for a duration. View Video
The break is customizable from 3 seconds to 300 seconds (5 minutes). You can also display a customizable message during the break to encourage yourself to get back to focusing.
Copy Text: interrupt every attempt to stop blocking with a copy text challenge.
When you try to Stop Blocking, you will be asked to type random text (ex. “who let the dogs out”). If you type it correctly, you will be able to proceed with stopping the block. This is different than “duration” because you have to actively type the text. On the other hand, with “duration” you can just put your phone to the side and wait.
Any attempt to stop blocking the selected apps for that particular session will be ignored. The option to delete the session is removed. Optionally, you can also disable the ability to edit the session which prevents one from disabling this setting. This setting is similar to “Deep Focus” except it’s less restrictive; for example, it doesn’t disable the ability to delete the app or log out.
