Refocus is built on top of Apple's Screen Time technology. It does not work without it. Unfortunately, this technology has numerous issues, and you may experience problems that Refocus can't fix.
Here are some common problems:
- Apps fail to unblock after pressing 'Stop Blocking'
- Apps fail to block when a scheduled session starts
- Apps fail to unblock when a scheduled session ends
These problems should be relatively rare. For example, they may happen less than 10% of the time. However, they could happen more often depending on numerous factors like how old your device is.
Issue #1: I Can't Unblock Apps!
If you see the screen on the left side, Refocus is not blocking the app. You encountered a bug with Screen Time technology.
To fix:
- If you encountered this when pressing 'Stop Blocking', sometimes deleting, and recreating the 'Stop Blocking Session' will fix the issue.
- Inside Refocus app, going to Settings > Advanced Settings, and pressing 'Fix App Blocking' may fix this issue.
- In iOS, go to Settings app, press Screen Time, navigate to 'APPS WITH SCREEN TIME ACCESS' and toggle off Refocus.
- Finally, if all else fails, restart the device. In fact, restarting the device often helps to reduce the chance this issue happens!
- If all of the above doesn’t help, your apps could be blocked by another app, or Apple’s Screen Time itself. To fix, in iOS, go to “Settings” app, turn off Screen Time, and ensure to toggle of all the apps in ‘APPS WITH SCREEN TIME ACCESS’, and then restart your phone.
